WOMEN IN THE ACCOUNTING FIELD left the figures behind last week for evening of relaxation and cocktails with other professional women, compliments of the accounting firm KPMG. They were welcomed to the inaugural get-together by KPMG’s managing partner Carol Nicholls. The event coincided with International Women’s Day.

“Why are we here” Nicholls asked.

“What I would say is that as female business executives, we have made great strides but we are on a journey. If we really reflect on the business network that male executives have built up over the decades, we have quite a way to go. We often struggle for a forum to network like we would like to network this evening, so it is all about getting to know each other,” she answered.

And she was not apologetic for the fact that KPMG in Barbados is 61 per cent female. “Not because of any bias” she said. Instead the high number of females reflected the accounting graduates coming out of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Faculty of Social Sciences.
