$19m upgrade

THE LONG-AWAITED renovations to the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium will cost $19 million.

The details of the project were revealed yesterday at a special ceremony marking the launch of the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium Renovations Project.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Stephen Lashley, Chinese Ambassador Wang Ke, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister for China Wang Chao and managing director of the Chinese Engineering Corporation Yang Lin, were on hand for the launch.

Lashley told those gathered that yesterday marked the culmination of months of negotiations.

“The refurbishment of the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium, at a cost of BDS$19 million would result in significant improvement of this space,” he said.  (PG)
