Barbados move up swimming medal table

AFTER ANOTHER GOOD NIGHT in the pool, Barbados have moved to third place in the medal standings at the 2016 CARIFTA Swimming Championships in Martinique.

Team Barbados won five gold, two silver and six bronze medals tonight, doubling their total to 26 (8-7-11), on 288.5 points.

Leading the way were Tristan Pragnell and McCallum Clarke who struck double gold. Pragnell won the 11-12 boys’ 100 metre backstroke in 1 minute 07.88 seconds and Clarke won the 400M Individual medley in the same age group in 5:12.33.

They teamed up with Eric Lashley and Roan Baker to win the 4×100 medley relay in 4:41.80.

Alex Sobers also won gold in the 15-17 boys’ 200 freestyle in 1:53.61 and Danielle Titus won the 13-14 girls’ 100M backstroke in a new CARIFTA and national age group record of 1:06.58.

Guadeloupe are now at the top of both the standings and the medal table. They have 424 points with 24 medals – (12 gold, 4 silver, 8 bronze). The Bahamas have slipped to second with 28 medals (10-11-17) and 407 points.
