AN ASSAULT CHARGE against three executive members of the Barbados Football Association (BFA) was dismissed Thursday in the District “A” Magistrates Court.

BFA president Randy Harris, of Silver Hill Village, Christ Church; Al Walcott, senior vice-president, of Maxwell Development, Christ Church; and junior assistant secretary Ashton Chapman, of Free Hill, Black Rock, walked away freed of the 2013 charge that was heard in Criminal Court No 2.

On September 10, 2013, before Magistrate Deborah Holder, the trio denied the charge of assaulting Chris Graham, a former BFA secretary. They were released without bail after their counsel, Ralph Thorne QC asked that they be released on their own cognizance.

On that occasion Thorne told the court that Harris had returned from the World Cup in Brazil to be here for the matter.

During submissions by Thorne, the court heard that Graham had only appeared on two occasions out of 13 trial sessions. His absence came even after Thorne said he was given an adjournment date. All three accused were present on every occasion.

The last noted appearance from Graham was March 3.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Irvin Kellman argued that because Graham did not turn up on this occasion it did not suggest he would not appear in the future.

However, Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant dismissed the case. (TKS)
