Airport system failure snags travellers

SOME PASSENGERS AT Grantley Adams International Airport were left waiting for hours yesterday morning to board flights as a system malfunction meant check-ins were done manually.

Early flights on American Airlines, JetBlue and Caribbean Airlines were affected, with America’s Miami route the hardest hit.

Agents were seen busily making sure that over 200 passengers were accommodated. This meant filling out forms by hand, checking names against a list and then going into the back office to print the boarding passes. Passengers were told the system went down late on Saturday night.

Having suffered through flight delays and cancellations during last Thursday’s seven-hour strike by air traffic controllers, many of the American Airlines passengers found themselves again hit with delays. (NS/RA)
