JONATHAN JONES is another strong-willed athlete who stormed his way into the hearts of Caribbean track and field fans with scintillating, record-breaking performances in the Under-18 Boys’ 800 metres and 1 500 metres.

The Coleridge & Parry student and member of the Elite Distance Academy is without doubt one of the best junior middle-distance runners in the region.

He first gave fans a taste of things to come when he dismissed the field to win the 1500 metres in three minutes, 57.19 seconds, erasing the old record of four minutes and four seconds set in 2007 by Theon O’Connor of Jamaica.

He came back later in the championships to win the 800 metres in fine style.
