Victim’s double jeopardy

NAKISHA SHEPHERD, the only survivor in one of last year’s deadliest crashes, is slowly improving. 

But the 23-year-old who beat incredible odds to overcome a coma and severe internal and external injuries from the October 25 accident that killed her cousin and three of their friends, has another battle on her hands.

With her medical bills conservatively estimated at $64 900 so far and mounting, her legal team has been caught in a back-and-forth with the insurance company involved in the matter.

Sun General, the lead insurers for a fleet of hired vehicles that included the doomed car in which Shepherd was a back seat passenger, responded last week to a request for assistance sent since February 5 to say it had received the letter.
