DERICK BISHOP may not be good enough in the eyes of the selectors to make the Barbados team but he was certainly good enough to win the award for Most Outstanding Cricketer.
The diminutive St Catherine left-arm spinner was named as the male recipient of the award on Saturday night at the Barbados Cricket Association’s (BCA) 2015 awards at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
Bishop was the leading wicket-taker in the BCA’s Elite Division with 85 wickets but was controversially not invited to national trials. He was instrumental in leading his club to a second place, behind champions Sagicor UWI.
The bearded Bishop, who had eight five-wicket hauls and a career-best 10 for 24 against Empire, the first time in 22 years a bowler had taken in ten wickets in an innings at that level, was by far the leading bowler in the competition.
