Two sweet

THIS ONE WAS good for the soul.

But oh so bad for the heart. West Indian cricket fans will take it anyway. The Caribbean region is still in party mood today, after West Indies men and women completed a historic double by winning their World T20 championship matches in contrasting fashion in Kolkata, India, yesterday.

The women, underdogs at the start, were compact in a comfortable eight-wicket win over Australia with three balls remaining.

The men? They did it in a tight game with two balls to spare but with far more flair, as Carlos Brathwaite’s four straight sixes in the final over earned them a four-wicket win over England in a contentious, topsy-turvy encounter at Eden Gardens.

In these pictures, West Indies T20 captain Darren Sammy screaming in delight as the team celebrates after the men’s victory over England, while the West Indies women break out their dance moves after beating Australia. (BA)
