WICB must shift

THE INNINGS of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) must come to a close.

That declaration came yesterday from Grenada’s Prime Minister, Dr Keith Mitchell, who is also chairman of the CARICOM Heads of Government’s committee on cricket.

Mitchell was responding to charges made by successful West Indies’ Twenty20 captain Darren Sammy in a stinging post-match interview Sunday in India after the regional cricketers defeated England to win the ICC World T20 title, when he revealed the players didn’t get the support from their own board and felt “disrespected”.

“People were wondering whether we would play this tournament, we had issues with the board. Mark Nicholas called us “players with no brains”. But all of us came together;these 15 men put adversity aside and played this type of cricket in front of such passionate fans,” Sammy told a global television audience. (EZS)
