A TIMELY MOVE by the Ministry of Education has averted possible protest action at three secondary schools for next Tuesday’s start of the new term.
Last week president of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU), Mary Redman, sounded the warning that if the ministry did not meet the union on the environmental issues at Combermere, Springer Memorial and The Lodge, “the start of the new term may not be as smooth as we in the Union would like it to be”.
A meeting was held at the ministry on Monday afternoon involving senior ministry officials and representatives from the BSTU and the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT). The BUT contingent left early because of the start of the union’s annual conference.
Redman told the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday that in each case “so far we are satisfied with the work being done during the interim for the holidays”. (YB)
