THE SEXUAL ASSAULT of a 17-year-old girl was among serious alleged crimes that kept the police on their toes last weekend.
The sexual abuse incident occurred early on Sunday morning when a gang of men intercepted the teenager and her friends as they were making their way home from the UWI Carnival. In other incidents, two vehicles were commandeered separately at gunpoint in dramatic fashion.
The girl was reported to be in the company of seven young men walking along the ABC Highway to catch a bus home after jumping in the carnival, when they were confronted by a hostile group of about 20, all dressed in black, at Hinds Hill, St Michael.
The assailants surrounded the group of friends and proceeded to rob the men of their cash and jewellery. Then they chased the men away but held on to the startled young woman and dragged her into nearby bushes where seven of the men forced her to perform a sexual act on them before setting her free.
Her friends contacted the police and reported that the teen had been kidnapped but she was later discovered dishevelled but unhurt walking along the street.
An official at the Cave Hill Campus said they were aware of the incident but added that the girl was not a student there. (MB)
