EVERY SINGLE BARBADOS PLAYER except captain Amanda Knight got some court time in the Barbados Gems’ 43-16 victory over Antigua and Barbuda this morning at the Netball Stadium.
Coach Julie Phillips virtually emptied the bench for the fifth match of the Caribbean Netball Association Jean Pierre Tournament, showcasing some new combinations.
Among those getting the starting nod were Dayna Babb at centre; wing defence Rhenea Gaskin and Xhane Greenidege at goalkeeper. Stephian Shepherd also played wing defence as Barbados maintained a perfect record against the weakest team in the competition.
The starting seven from shooter to keeper were Tower Lorde, Rashanna Thorne, Japhia Lucas, Babb, Gaskin, Chante Moore and Greenidge.
The Gems had their most productive quarter and half, with scores of 17-7 and 30-10 respectively, by half-time with goal attack Brianna Holder appearing from part of the second quarter.
The players will face their biggest challenge tonight against a St Lucia side which took Jamaica all the way to the final whistle before losing 25-24.
In other results, Jamaica also remained unbeaten with a 39-9 victory over Bermuda; Dominica best Trinidad and Tobago 40-9 and St Lucia remained in the hunt with a 35-21 victory over Grenada.
