John’s jubilee jam makes ‘all feel proud’

HIS NAME IS likely to be written on history’s page next to the likes of Irvin Burgie and Lester Vaughan.

Fifty years ago Burgie and Vaughan had the distinction of penning the words to the National Anthem and the pledge respectively; now in 2016 veteran musician John Roett has the honour of writing the jubilee song for Barbados’ 50th anniversary of Independence.

However, Roett could just have easily not been in contention and would not be heading to Pavilion Studios to start the live recording of Legends To Legacy this evening.

The Government Information Service (GIS) had opened the door for writers to submit songs for the 50th anniversary celebrations. At the end of the set period all of the entries were found wanting, and the search resumed.
