ARTHUR HOLDER has been chosen as the candidate to lead the Barbados Labour Party’s (BLP) fight to regain the St Michael Central constituency.

In a crushing landslide defeat last night at George Lamming Primary School, the vocal crowd elected Holder by 271 votes to newcomer and challenger Hally Haynes’ 50. The incumbent is Steve Blackett, who won by 39 votes over Holder in the last general election.

Voting started about 5:45 p.m. and polls closed at 7 p.m. Before the final tally was announced, the Dwayne DJ Bravo Bravo song Champion blared from the speakers and supporters roared as Holder entered the room.

Speaking after accepting the congratulations of his supporters, the lawyer thanked his wife, his campaign team and those who voted for him. He also thanked Haynes for “ensuring the democratic tradition continued to be maintained”. (HLE)
