POLICE DISCOVERED more than 200 marijuana plants at a St Andrew residence yesterday evening, sparking further calls for the Belleplaine Police Station not to be closed.

Around 4 p.m officers executed a warrant at a house in the Belleplaine Housing Area. Sources told the MIDWEEK NATION a man had just arrived home, but when the police pulled up he bolted, leaving a little girl of primary school age behind. The girl was eventually accommodated by a neighbour.

The police gave chase but lost him in the bush behind the house. After conducting a search of the backyard and the bushy area, 222 cannabis plants were found under cultivation.

One bystander made the point this was why the police station needed to remain where it was rather than be incorporated into the District “F” Police Station in the Eric Holder Complex at Horse Hill, St Joseph. (CA)
