MEMBER OF Parliament for St James South Donville Inniss is calling for a broader dialogue concerning violence in schools.

In response to a student of the Ellerslie Secondary School allegedly attacking a teacher there on Wednesday, he said the issue was greater than one act of violence, or even a few.

“As the parliamentary representative for the teacher in question and as one who interacts with those in the teaching profession, I think there must be a national debate because a lot of what is playing out now is a manifestation of wider society.

“If the youth of today have no respect for authority or no discipline they cannot come to school and act as if they are washed in the blood of the Lamb. If they have no manners at home they will have none at school; if they can’t respect their parents, they won’t respect their teachers,” he said. (CA)
