Tribunal twist

HEARING OF the Employment Rights Tribunal took an unusual turn yesterday.

The media were banned from filming or recording the proceedings of a matter involving an unfair dismissal claim.

Chairman Omari Drakes, flanked by commissioners Dr Hartley Richards and Frederick Forde told reporters from THE NATION newspaper and Barbados Today that their recorders and cameras would not be allowed in the hearing.

The tribunal was investigating the unfair dismissal claim brought by Valerie Payne, the former public relations/marketing officer of the Barbados Vocational Training Board, against the board in the Warrens Office Complex yesterday.

The Nation and Barbados Today were the only two media houses present.
