THE WEST INDIES Cricket Board (WICB) says there is no justification for its dissolution, inspite of calls from cricket legends such as Sir Garfield Soberts, Sir Wesley Hall and Sir Viv Richards for the “immediate resignation” of the Dave Cameron-led administration.
Yesterday, the WICB release said its acceptance and implementation of an average of 90 per cent of all the commissioned reports received minus adding another layer of bureaucracy – could justify calling for the board to be dissolved.
The board added that instead the small groups should consider, among other things, promises made by governments to contribute to the growth of cricket by hosting matches/international series, continuing to facilitate development which aids in the growth of sport;,creating a more enabling environment for movement around the region; revitalising cricket in the schools across the region and assisting in the setting up of territorial academies.
The WICB has also taken much credit for the global triple triumph this year in which the Caribbean has secured the Under-19 World Cup, and the men’s and women’s Twenty20 World tiles. They attribute those accomplishments to its high performance programme implemented just over two years ago. (PR/MK)
