NEWBURY STARS lost what could be the battle to escape the cellar when the Barbados Netball Association’s Division One continued on Friday night at the Netball Stadium.
Playing a game of hope and then despair, Newbury were trounced by UWI Blackbirds ‘B’ 46-33 with six-foot Barbados attacker Rhea Bryant running riot in the circle, sinking 28 goals from 32 attempts. Both teams had lost their opening matches of the new season.
Newbury’s hope came with the dazzling form of Khadija Domingo, the introduction of 53-year-old veteran Beverley Marsh and Blackbirds’ generosity in resting Bryant in the third quarter.
Trailing 9-12 and 15-24, Newbury outscored their opponents 11-6 to enter the fourth quarter trailing by just four goals 26-30. (KB)
