BACK FROM THE PAST VIDEO: Samuel Jackman Prescod

OFTEN CALLED THE “greatest Barbadian of all time” and the “saviour of his country”, Samuel Jackman Prescod’s fought to improve the life of “Free Coloured Persons” and the Enslaved.

Jackman Prescod created the Liberal Party which he used as a forum to eradicate social injustice, however, his true power was through the written word. He used the newspaper to create discussion on critical topics of the time.

Today in Barbados, the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic bears his name in remembrance of a man who worked to uplift a nation.

Samuel Jackman Prescod was portrayed by Actor, Du-Wayne Hinds and the script was written by Assistant Information Officer, Sharifa Medford.

The production was filmed in the historical and beautiful grounds of Wildey House, the headquarters of the Barbados National Trust and the costumes were provided by the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados.

This series is the brain child of the BGIS’ Social Media and Web Department which is loosely conceived from the Canadian series Titans

This segment is produced by Esther Jones and Kathyann Husbands; directed by Esther Jones; filmed by Jamal Hall, Jamal Weekes and photography directed and edited by Mikul Elcock. The creative team of Glenn Brathwaite (Wardrobe Master), Helene Headley (Hair & Makeup) and Kim Ramsay-Moore (Hair & Makeup Assistant) make the characters jump off the pages of the history books.
