THE FATHER of Independence already looms large over Independence Square in Bridgetown.
And yesterday his proud mirror image was unveiled in Heroes Square too.
Errol Walton Barrow’s statue was joined by another copy of the country’s first Prime Minister last night, when a regal looking new portrait of the National Hero was unveiled to a blushing public during a stirring tribute to the country’s seven Prime Ministers, past and present, at Heroes Square.
Signalling another significant aspect of the Barbados’ golden jubilee celebration, yesterday’s tribute ceremony highlighted the contributions of Barrow, Tom Adams, Sir Harold St John, Sir Lloyd Sandiford, Owen Arthur and current Prime Minister, Freundel Stuart.
Barrow’s portrait, done by artist Wayne Branch, was the first to be unveiled, and will be followed by subsequent unveilings of the other six Prime Ministers in coming months leading up to Independence Day on November 30. (BA)
