Monument design finalists to be announced on Tuesday

THE FIVE FINALISTS of the Barbados at 50 Monument Design Competition will be announced next week.

The finalists, chosen after Stage One of the competition, will be revealed during a ceremony on Tuesday, May 3, at the Officers Mess, Barbados Defence Force, St. Ann’s Fort, Garrison, St Michael, at 10 a.m.

Chairman of the 50th Anniversary of Independence Celebrations Coordinating Committee, Senator Maxine McClean, will present participants with their prizes.

The Barbados at 50 Monument Design Competition was launched on February 3 by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart. Its aim is to encourage Barbadian designers at home and abroad to design a 50th Anniversary of Independence monument which will be constructed at the Garrison Savannah.

The competition consists of five stages, with those selected from Stage One being invited to proceed to Stage Two. The winning design is expected to be chosen in June, and the monument completed by October 30. (BGIS)
