Bar: Don’t rush new law

A PROPOSED NEW LAW to regulate the legal profession requires careful analysis and should not be rushed, the president of the Bar Association has said.

Tariq Khan was reacting to comments made last week by Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite, who said it was taking too long to reform the Legal Profession Act and warned the association he would be moving forward with or without its input.

 “I’ve had dialogue with perhaps three Bar presidents since I’ve been AG and again I’ve given myself a very tight deadline that we will enact the new law by the end of this year,” Brathwaite had said.
