THE University of the West Indies (UWI) Blackbirds are flying high in the Digicel Premier League.

The boys from Cave Hill beat fellow league contenders DirecTV Paradise 3-0 on Saturday night at the Barbados Football Association’s (BFA) Wildey ground.

Lumisol Technology Inc. Pinelands suffered their 11th defeat of the season as they went down 2-1 to neighbours Mackeson Brittons Hill.

UWI took first position solely from Paradise after both of them came into this encounter on 30 points with the Dover side holding the edge on goal difference.

Paradise looked lethargic and short of attacking ingenuity, perhaps due to the absence of leading goalscorer Armando Lashley through injury.

UWI took the lead in the 32nd minute via a strike by Panamanian international Jairo Lombardo.
