Youth at risk, says Marshall

BARBADOS IS IN DANGER of losing a generation to violence.

Former Attorney General Dale Marshall sounded that warning amidst continuing reports of young people, particularly males, being charged with homicide and other serious crimes.

“The problem with losing a generation is that you can’t catch up,” he said.

“If a crop of potatoes fail, that crop is lost and you’ve got to start over now and plant a new crop. But until that new crop is harvested, that is a write-off. Barbados has 270 000 or 280 000 people and we cannot afford to write off a generation.

“We can’t afford to write them off to social media. We can’t afford to write them off to crime. We can’t afford to write them off through loss of educational opportunities,” he said. (WILLCOMM)
