AS LONG AS the system of the National Senior Games is up to par, Barbados can expect more participants from their Caribbean neighbours, says Minister of Social Care Steve Blackett.

“Once we get the mechanics of our Games working well in Barbados, we can extend invitations to some of our Caribbean nations to attend the Games,” Blackett told MIDWEEK SPORT during an interview at the 15th annual National Senior Games at the National Stadium on Monday.

He said that in previous years, the Games had attracted athletes from across the region, especially from St Vincent and St Lucia, but overseas participants only came from Trinidad and Tobago this year.

Blackett said it was necessary to extend invitations because the Barbadian competitors faced the same athletes at the Huntsman Games in Utah. (RG)
