White back with a bang

AFTER three years away from the squash courts, not many would have given Lilianna White much of a chance at the BCQS International Masters Squash tournament last weekend.

She proved them wrong.

Her return was a triumphant one. She upset the plans for former national champion Andrea Goodridge to take the women’s final with a come-from-behind victory at the Barbados Squash Club’s Marine Gardens courts.

White, 35, told MIDWEEK SPORT that her competitive spirit was lost due to the lack of motivation caused by the death of her father.

“I had been semi-retired for the last three years. It was due to the fact that my dad had died in 2012 and I couldn’t find the inspiration to play competitively, to fight for the ball and fight for the match,” she said. (RG)
