STAY IN THE FIGHT, stay focused, faithful and in favour with God.

This was the message Pastor Kelvin Phillips of New Beginning Ministries gave to the congregation, and particularly to Sister Esterline Small, during a special service held recently to celebrate Small’s 50 years in ministry at the Orange Hill Christian Mission Church.

Phillips made reference to 1 Corinthians 15:58, as he stated: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

The pastor told the members and specially invited guests that as the church celebrated Small’s achievement, they must never forget those who laboured for the Lord and had been faithful examples of the believers.

“We must keep the legacy of those who have gone on, and cherish those who are still with us, for they have paved the way for us. So be encouraged as believers, the same God who kept them will keep us today.”

He reminded the congregation that “while the Christian life will have its ups and downs, God is faithful”.

Phillips also quoted from Joshua 1, where God told Joshua: “As I was with Moses so I will be with thee, I will not fail thee or forsake thee, only be strong and of a good courage. Be courageous and keep My Word.”

He added: “As we face our adversity, remember our strength comes from the Lord and our strength is in the Lord.  So in our labour for the Lord hold on and keep faithful. Know this promise of the Lord and never lose sight of it . . . .

“God knows how to deliver us from sin’s temptation,” he said. “Every temptation has an open door, so run away from sin and don’t give in. Joseph ran away from Potiphar’s wife. She had his coat, but she could not have him. Joseph knew and loved God, and he was determined not to do anything to mess up his relationship with God.”

Finally, Phillips urged believers to value their Christian life and be proud to be a Christian.

“We have a godly heritage to keep. Don’t stray away from the old paths. Don’t compromise for the sake of filthy lucre (money), but allow the Holy Spirit to guide you.”
