BARBADOS won’t be taking a U-turn on the road to Rio – Zika or not.

Sports physician and Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) director Dr Adrian Lorde says there are some concerns over Brazil’s current health conditions, but not enough for the Bajan contingent to even consider boycotting the Olympic Games.

“We are following the IOC (International Olympic Committee) medical directors’ guidelines as well as the World Health Organisation guidelines, which have been issued by the IOC and we have also consulted the chief medical officer here, so we are aren’t overly concerned right now,” said Lorde.

“Of course, we are taking precautions as we will be immunising our athletes against yellow fever, measles, mumps, rubella, making sure they are up to date with their state of health because this is a world event and there will be people coming from other parts of the world,” he added. (JM)
