LEVI CADOGAN kept on track for the upcoming nationals with an easy victory in the men’s 100 metres on the first day of the Olympians Classic at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Cadogan, who has qualified for the Rio Olympics in the 200 metres, beat a competitive field into submission by taking the 100 metres event in 10.39 seconds.

Trailing in his wake were Kentoine Browne, who took second place in a time of 10.62 seconds and Deon Hope who was third in 10.63 seconds.

Other notable triumphs in the 100 metres came from the precocious Under-15 sprinter Darian Clarke of Quantam Leap, who won his race in 11.56 seconds; Matthew Clarke, who took the boys’ Under-18 dash for cash in 10.98 seconds; Christ Church Foundation’s Hannah Connell, who beat the Under-18 girls in 12.25 seconds and Jaliyah Denny, a Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) selectee who beat the Under-15 girls in 12.75 seconds.

Sarah Belle, who is also getting ready for the CUT championships, warmed up for the 400 metres, blowing the opposition away in 60.56 seconds.

The unattached Tiana Bowen continued her good season by beating the Under-18s in 57.97 seconds with Shonita Brome of Elite Distance second in 59.04 seconds and Rhea Hoyte of High Performance third in 59.26 seconds.

Kuron Griffith, flying the colours of UWI Blackbirds, also made a good impression as he outpaced his opponents in the Under-18 boys’ 400 metres in 50.07 seconds.

Catching the eye in the 1 500 metres were Raheem Skinner, who won the men’s open event in 4.03.25 and his Elite Distance colleague Elizabeth Williams, who took her race in 4.43.10.

The unattached Anderson Greaves had the best leap of 7.10 metres in the Under-18 boys’ long jump while Triston Gibbons of Elite Distance had no equal in the same division in the discus, with a hurl of 47.41 metres.

Completing an outstanding all-round day for Elite Distance was Romario Antoine, who was the champion in the men’s discus with a mark of 46.70 metres. (AT)
