‘Follow law’ or face the music

FOLLOW THE LAW or “suffer the consequences”.

That’s the approach Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler feels authorities should take when the rules related to the awarding of Government contracts and overall procurement are not followed.

Sinckler said Government was preparing to introduce new procurement laws that would help “reform the whole public finance management system of Barbados”, including the introduction of “central rules for procurement”.

And while not directly referencing concerns raised in the most recent Auditor General’s Report, he said “there is no excuse” for not following rules that were already on the books.

“There are laws and if people don’t follow the systems, then they should suffer the consequences under the laws,” Sinckler said yesterday after the official opening of a regional procurement conference at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre. (SC)
