PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY need to realise that the law is for everyone and not just some.
At a time when poor black people of African descent are being removed from their regular places of business in Bridgetown and other black Barbadians are facing the wrath of the Chief Town Planner for erecting illegal structures, some other Barbadians who, because of the colour of their skin and their social disposition, seem to believe that they are exempt from and above and beyond the law.
This is totally unacceptable in a modern society.
For too long too many people with black and white skin and money in this country, created by a visionless black political class, believe that they do not have to answer to anybody and that they can use and abuse the environment, exploit people of perceived lower status and manipulate the judicial process to suit their own nefarious purposes.
What is even more disconcerting is that these same [people] can irrationally claim victimisation when their unlawful behaviour is challenged. This is childish, normalised insanity!
It is time that the law be truly exercised without fear or favour. We cannot be approaching a half-century of Independence proclaiming to the world how proud we are of our achievements, and have this nonsense marring our efforts at genuine nationhood.
Relatedly, it is noteworthy that a year which is pregnant with landmark revolutionary anniversaries, namely the 50th anniversary of Barbados’ political Independence, the 1816 Revolution and the 1876 Confederation Uprising in Barbados; the 1976 Soweto Massacre in South Africa and the visit to Barbados of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie, that such puerile, regressive and fascist behaviours are manifesting in both public and private life.
