St Cyprian’s, Bay Primary in semis

ST CYPRIAN’S BOYS’ and Bay Primary are the first teams to secure semi-final spots in the National Sports Council’s Bico Primary Schools Football Competition.

St Cyprian’s thrashed Milton Lynch 5-1, while Bay Primary edged St Alban’s 2-1 in their quarter-finals at the National Stadium yesterday.

Dominic Downes scored the first goal for St Cyprian’s in the third minute, while Marcus Whittington scored with a direct corner kick in the 18th minute to make it 2-0 at half-time.

Three minutes after resumption, St Cyprian’s central midfielder Jaydon Sealy got the third goal in the 23rd minute, while Downes added his second in the 25th minute to make it 4-0.

Edward Downey pierced a tight defence to score Milton Lynch’s lone goal in the 29th minute, but St Cyprian’s final goal came from a penalty in the 38th minute by Sealy.

In the second quarter-final, Amir Gustave banged the ball into the back of the nets in only the second minute for Bay Primary.

A good save from St Alban’s goalkeeper Jerimiah Worrell prevented Bay Primary from scoring their second goal before half-time.

But Gustave netted Bay Primary’s second goal just after half-time in the 24th minute from a corner.

Bay Primary’s goalkeeper Michael Browne kept St Alban’s at bay, cleverly guarding the bars to thwart every attack from Azarri Williams.

Browne further showcased his skills by saving a penalty kick from Williams’ teammate Jabbary Cumberbatch,

However, Cumberbatch did not panic and finally beat Browne to score St Alban’s lone goal in the 27th minute.

The two other quarter-finals will be played tomorrow at the same venue at 10 a.m. (JC)
