UWI BLACKBIRDS A are the Barbados Netball Association’s double crown queens.

Last night, the Blackbirds flew to an unassailable 40 points from eight matches by destroying Newbury Stars 68-22 at the Netball Stadium.

Goal shooter Shonica Wharton, in late birthday mode, scored a record 60 goals from 63 attempts to eclipse her previous 52-goal record. Goal attack Rieah Holder added eight from 11.

Khadija Domingo scored 14 of 23 and Janelle Brathwaite sank eight from 20 for Newbury

UWI still have games in hand against Pine Hill St Barnabas and Guardian General Pride of Villa. All of the other five Division One teams have lost three or more matches. (KB)
