RELATIONS BETWEEN RESIDENTS of Bromefield, St Lucy, and their industrial neighbour Arawak Cement Company appear to be improving.
Last Saturday the top brass of the company sat down with more than two dozen residents who had been complaining for months about dust that had been invading their homes and hurting their health as a result of a limestone quarry Arawak opened upwind of their homes last year.
According to spokesperson for the residents Olivia Thornhill, the Arawak team was led by general manager Manuel Toro and included officials from its environment and safety, human resources and public relations teams and the issues covered included general health complaints and a reduced standard of living caused by the dust.
She said several residents again complained that they continued to suffer from bouts of asthma, difficulty breathing, sore throat and other respiratory matters. (RRM)
