THE Blackbirds of Cave Hill soared to the summit of the 2016 Premier League and claimed their first league championship when they embarrassed Banks Beer Champions Cup finalists Rendezvous on Sunday night at the Barbados Football Association’s Wildey AstroTurf.

University of the West Indies (UWI) hammered 14 unanswered goals into the Rendezvous nets in the first half of their encounter.

With Rendezvous unable to field a squad for the second period of the match, it meant that the Cave Hill unit earned their first national championship in just their second year in top flight.

UWI scored a season high 80 goals on their way to 45 points from their 18 matches, edging reigning champions the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP), who finished on 44 points after their 4-0 victory over Direct TV Paradise. (ROG)
