EIGHT OF ten times, a score of 282 is likely to guarantee a victory in a One-Day International.

Yesterday was one of those two times when it didn’t.

A crowd of about 3 500 was probably anticipating a West Indies win in the eighth match of the Ballr Cup tri-nation series after the hosts recovered splendidly from the peril of 31 for three to post a challenging total in their day/night contest at Kensington Oval.

Australia chased down the target to win by six wickets with eight balls remaining but it was a very tense affair for a brief period and it was anyone’s game when 52 were needed from the last six overs.

Glenn Maxwell’s bold hitting and improvisation in an unbeaten 46 off 26 balls ensured there was no drama at the end. (HG)
