King moves on at Wimbledon

BARBADOS’ TENNIS RECORD setter is on the verge of creating even more history.

Darian King is now just two wins away from a historic spot in the main draw of a Grand Slam after winning his first round qualifying match at Wimbledon yesterday.

Playing against Ti Chen of Taiwan, the 24-year-old King valiantly fought back from set down before pulling off a heroic 1-6, -4, 10-8 victory over the world No. 226 at the All England Club.

“I think he was a little off-balanced with the surface to start and his movement definitely wasn’t there because it’s the first time in six years he’s playing on grass,” explained King’s older brother and coach Christopher of the slow start. (JM)
