PRESIDENT OF THE Barbados Transport Cooperative Society Christopher Hallett and members of the society want to know what is going to happen to projects they started and are now stalled since the 11-member board he chaired was “rudely shaken out of their seats” and a new set of directors installed.
“A new group of directors has taken over the society,” he said, as he and a group of a dozen taxi operators gathered at the Durants, Christ Church gas station and taxi stand yesterday to protest and to demand the Registrar of Cooperatives answer some questions.
Hallett said the board, which he headed, wanted to know from the regulator, who operated from within Financial Services Commission, why the executive was dismantled and what was the status of the projects his board started, such as the expansion of their gas station and minimart.
Disheartened that the project, which was to cost an estimated $10 000, was now stalled, secretary Tedroy Daniel said the society now had a $40 000 bill on its hands because of payments due to the manger/receiver, as well as legal bills resulting from the arbitration the company went through. (LK)
