BARBADOS AND WEST INDIES Under-19 fast bowler Chemar Holder is currently in England where he has been enjoying the experience of training and playing for the first time.
The 18-year-old St Leonard’s Boys’ student, who was a member of the triumphant West Indies Under-19 squad that captured the ICC Youth World Cup in Bangladesh earlier this year, has been granted a six-week stint at the Hampshire County Cricket Club Academy, compliments arrangements between the club and the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA).
Holder impressed the Hampshire coaching staff during the annual English counties pre-season tour in Barbados in March.
Among the highlights of the stay so far has been the opportunity to train with the County’s senior players, including West Indies Twenty-20 captain Darren Sammy and Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi, both of whom are contracted to Hampshire for the ongoing Nat West T20 Blast and fellow Barbadian Tino Best, who is a member of the County Championship side.  (AH)
