BROAD STREET, from its northern to southern points, was transformed yesterday into a cultural village, signalling the official start of Crop Over.
The main street, which was closed to vehicular traffic, was a stage for cultural life as hundreds of locals and visitors competed for space to observe actors who danced as infectious percussion rhythms resonated from the instruments of young ruk-a-tuk male players dressed in colourful outfits.
The activities, which began at midday, also comprised the First Citizens Crop Over City Fest and Ceremonial Delivery of the Last Canes, and an evening concert.
