The same, though, can’t be said of Barbados’ other high-profile hurdlers.
Olympic qualification seems a hurdle too high to clear right now for Shane Brathwaite, Ryan Brathwaite and Greggmar Swift, as the trio fell way short of this year’s qualifying standard in the men’s 110 hurdles once again at the National Stadium.
It was the biggest story coming out of the National Championships on a Saturday night when Ramon Gittens reaffirmed his status as Barbados’ pre-eminent sprinter with a title-winning run of 10.09 seconds in the 100 metres.
Beckles wasted no time punching her ticket to Rio, first qualifying in the prelims of the women’s 100 hurdles with a clocking of 12.97 seconds, before returning to go even faster by running 12.93 in the final. (JM)
