MINISTER OF EDUCATION Ronald Jones is getting support for his call to rein in the excessive costs associated with primary school graduations.
Head of the Barbados National Council for Parent-Teacher Associations (BNCPTA), Shone Gibbs, said his organisation had been monitoring the trend over time as costs had risen from just $20 to $150 in quick order. Moreover, he said the demand of more than $150 for a child to graduate at the primary level was “ridiculous”.
“Parents have been expressing concern about the increasing cost of primary school graduations. I think that it is time that both the school administration and the parents of the graduating class determine what they want,” Gibbs told the DAILY NATION.
Asked whether there would still be some level of marginalisation if the players came to a consensus, Gibbs said there were systems in place to deal with those isolated cases. (YB)
