The “world police” is on the beat again.
Another security alert hastily and prematurely composed has been issued by the authorities at the US embassy in Barbados.
Part of the advisory says “drug use, theft, assault, robbery and sexual assault incidents all rise during Crop Over season”.
There is no denying the fact that Kadooment Day has been marred by incidents in the past, but the “all” offences mentioned are exaggerations of a hasty and presumptuous mind.
It is unimaginable as to how many and how often security alerts and advisories would be issued about crimes committed on American soil.
Thankfully, the advisory was met head-on by a response from the chairman of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., although there is need for further action by Barbados’ authorities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must engage the Government of America at the highest level possible to have protocols in place governing the issuance of travel alerts and security advisories.
The American embassy is located on Barbadian soil at the goodwill and pleasure of Barbadians and nothing should prevail to the undermining of that arrangement.
