PRIME MINISTER of Barbados, Freundel Stuart heads this country’s delegation to the 37th Regular Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government which takes place in Georgetown, Guyana from today, Monday, July 4 until Wednesday, July 6.
Following the official opening ceremony this afternoon, high on the agenda will be discussions on the “Brexit” vote. The meeting comes as the European Union and the world are reacting to the results of the vote and examining the possible consequences, and their effects on regional movements like CARICOM, which use the EU Integration Model as a point of reference.
Other agenda items to be considered include matters related to Regional Security; Freedom of Movement; the Status of the CSME; Correspondent Banking; an Action Plan for Statistics in the Caribbean; and an Action Plan for Statistics.
The Heads of Government will also receive as their Special Guest, the President of the Republic of Chile, H.E. Michelle Bachelet. Prime Minister Stuart will hold bilateral talks with the Chilean President, and will also meet with the Executive Director of CARDI, during the Conference.
The Barbados delegation also includes Senator the Hon. Maxine McClean, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; Senator the Hon. Darcy Boyce, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and chairman of the CARICOM Commission on the Economy; Sonja Welch, Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office; Cecile Humphrey, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; H.E.
