BARBADOS’ JUNIORS are just one win away from guaranteeing themselves a semi-final berth after thrashing Dominica 78-45 yesterday for their second win in a row to start the Caribbean Basketball Confederation’s Under-16 boys’ tournament in Guyana.
Playing at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, the Bajan boys were never threatened as combo guard Chemar Steele got the ball rolling from the opening tip of a game Barbados led from the start.
The ultramarine and gold jumped out to a quick 21-10 lead before blowing the game wide open by scoring 12 unanswered points to start a second quarter that they led by as many as 31 (44-13).
That advantage ballooned to 36 points (62-26) at one stage on the other side of the break in the third quarter before Barbados eventually took their foot off the gas.
Steele finished with a game-high 16 points while forward Kiserian Adams had his second double-double in as many game with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Barbados are to play Antigua today at 5:45 p.m. and will close out pool play against tournament favourites The Bahamas tomorrow after coming from down 18 points to beat the British Virgin Islands on Sunday. (JM)
