AB DE VILLIERS returned to form with 63 off 33 balls as the Tridents Pride of Barbados notched their first win in the 2016 Hero Caribbean Premier League at Warner Park today.
de Villiers scored five fours and three sixes and the Tridents reached 166 for three in reply to hosts St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ total of 162 for eight off 20 overs.
He featured in a 63-run partnership with Shoaib Malik (54) who was promoted to opener and an unbeaten 58-run stand with captain Kieron Pollard (25 not out), who brought up the seven-wicket win with a four to square leg.
Man of the match de Villiers said: “It was a fantastic win. Always good to win away from home. I enjoyed batting with Malik. He thinks like me.”
Earlier, Evin Lewis had another half-century and Barbadian Jonathan Carter scored 41 to steady the Patriots who lost three wickets during the powerplay.
After the opening home stand, Patriots have one win from four matches, the same as Trinbago Knight Riders who were beaten by Jamaica Tallawahs on Tuesday.
Chris Gayle scored the tournament’s second century and highest individual score of 108 not out off 54 balls in the seven-wicket rout.
