GOVERNMENT HAS HIRED a civil aviation expert to assist in moving the Grantley Adams International Airport to acquiring Category 1 status in the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) ratings.
Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, made the disclosure in the Upper Chamber yesterday while introducing the Civil Aviation Amendment Bill 2016.
She said it was important that the airport, which had 30 000 aircraft landings last year, achieved the top international standard and was brought on par with other airports enjoying the top status.
Barbados is a signatory to the ICAO and the Convention of International Civil Aviation, which provides for the adoption of international standards and recommended practices to regulate air navigation in Barbados. (GC)
