Bajan pacer rocks Pakistan

ROOKIE BARBADIAN FAST BOWLER Jofra Archer grabbed a four-wicket haul in an impressive first-class debut for Sussex against the touring Pakistan Test side at the County Ground in Hove, England, yesterday.

According to ESPNcricinfo’s deputy editor Andrew McGlashan, who was reporting from the venue, the 21-year-old Archer, who plays locally for the Wildey club, gave “a whole-hearted display of nippy seam bowling” for the outstanding figures of 22-7-49-4.

Pakistan closed the opening day on 363 for five off 99 overs with middle-order batsman Azhar Ali, one of Archer’s four scalps, making 145 in 315 minutes with 20 fours and a six.

Sharing the new ball with Ajmal Shahzad as Sussex rested five of their first-choice players, Archer, a lanky former Foundation student, who represented the Barbados and West Indies Under-19 teams, and also played for Pickwick, struck in his second over. (EZS)
